Not only is the face a likely victim of these changes, but the neck, chest, cleavage, arms and hands may be affected as well. Microdermabrasion can reduce the effects of aging on our skin.
Microdermabrasion is a treatment that improves the appearance of wrinkles, skin texture and colour by removing the topmost layer of skin leaving it more supple and vibrant. Microdermabrasion also stimulates the elastic tissue beneath the surface of the skin resulting in a healthier and firmer appearance.
A wonderful alternative to laser or chemical peels, Microdermabrasion is non-invasive, pain-free, non-surgical and requires no down time after treatment. The length of the treatment and number of treatments vary depending on skin type and condition. Results are gradual but highly effective. Most people experience softer, smoother skin after their first treatment.
The ancient Egyptians are said to be the first to use dermabrasion skin care techniques to improve their skin. Kings and queens used alabaster and pumice to remove blemishes and rough spots and make their skin smooth and soft.
In the mid 1950s motorized wire brushes replaced their human-powered predecessors and the use of dermabrasion became more commonplace. In the 1990s a skin care technique using natural crystals for Microdermabrasion was developed in Italy.

An overview of how to use the Rio Crystal Renew
Before you begin, it is a great idea to watch the Step-by-Step DVD and study the User Guide. 24 hours before you begin your treatment it is essential to do a patch test. Choose a small inconspicuous area on the neck and treat on low power. If your skin is Ok then it is safe to carry on.
A full facial will take about 10 minutes. To begin with clean the area to be treated, rinse off and pat dry.
Turn the unit on and select the power level you feel most comfortable with. Place the wand on your skin to activate the vacuum, which brings the crystals through the wand.
Move the wand across the skin smoothly and slowly until you have covered the area to be treated. When you have finished wash off any crystals and pat your face dry. You may want to apply an un-perfumed moisturiser to finish off.
Relax and take your time with moving the wand across the face. Use the treatment areas section as a guide to the direction of wand strokes.
Leave at least 7 days between treatments on the same area.
Answers to the most common questions
Can anyone use Crystal Renew?
Crystal Renew can be used by both women and men. It should not be used by children.
Is it suitable for my skin type?
Crystal Renew can be used on dry, oily and combination skin types and also works on light, medium and dark skin tones. It is designed for anyone who wants to visibly reduce the appearance of brown spots, pore size and achieve a more even skin tone. It should not be used with skin conditions which include: acne, rosacea, eczema, over moles or growths, or any other skin ailment. It is recommended that you consult a doctor if you are unsure.
Is it safe?
This non-invasive process abrades the outer layer of the skin, which is only made of dead skin cells. The crystals are perfectly safe and non-toxic if ingested. They dont cause adverse skin reactions and they are not carcinogenic.
Crystal Renew was designed for easy, safe, at-home use. You can control the strength of your treatment by adjusting the power levels. Also, the crystals will not flow from the Wand unless the Wand Head has full contact with the skin. If you get any in your eyes or mouth simply rinse away with water.
How long should a treatment take?
Treatment times vary depending on the area covered and power level selected. A full facial will take approximately 10 minutes.
How quick before I see my results?
You will notice an immediate improvement to your skin after the first treatment. Improved tone and texture should be visible after the third treatment.
Is it normal to have crystal residue on my skin after a treatment?
Some crystals are left behind to indicate the areas that have been treated. These are easily removed with generous amounts of water after treatment.
Will it remove sun spots?
6–10 treatments can remove smaller sun spots while larger ones fade significantly.
Can I use other skincare products?
Yes, but be careful of certain ingredients that may irritate your skin such as retinol.
How often should I use Crystal Renew?
We suggest no more than 1 treatment a week leaving at least 48 hours between treatments on the same area. Do NOT use more than once a week. After use, as with any exfoliation product, you should always protect your skin with a high sun protection factor sunscreen.
Will I feel any discomfort during treatment?
No. A slight abrasiveness may be felt, but the treatment should be gentle and painless and leave your skin feeling fresh, clean and smooth. If you feel any discomfort, decrease the power level.
